We are just a few days away from Christmas, so I thought I would introduce one of my Christmas decorations.
I have made several items to use for Christmas decorations. The small wall hanging with the fabric yo-yos, in the shape of, and decorated to look like a Christmas tree, tends to be my favorite.
My aunt had a pillow on her couch that had fabric yo-yos on the front. I was in the process of making one when I realized most of the colors I was choosing were green. It was a couple of months away from the holiday season, but I thought about making a Christmas tree.
I added a ribbon and old buttons from my mom's button box. At this time, I was learning to use a variety of different threads. I used silver thread for snowflakes in the sky and waves of snow under the tree. I used a copper-colored thread to soften the seam connecting the blue background to the green border.
I was in a local quilt guild years ago. The year after making this wall hanging, we had a show just before the holidays. I entered this wall hanging. The owner of the gallery welcomed everyone and introduced the president of our group. She gave a speech about the history of quilt making, various traditions, and new techniques. At the end, she asked if there were any questions. Someone asked about the Christmas tree wall hanging.
I was excited that something I made was recognized.
The Christmas tree wall hanging is 13" X 14"
