The ABC Quilt

I started working on this baby quilt before I was pregnant with my son. I started embordering the letters and a picture on scrap squares of solid colors. As I was choosing the fabric color and the letter, I considered the picture I would use. I wanted to be able to see and understand each picture.
I did not succeed.
While working on the D close up, I could see what the letter was. Everything looked good. But after looking at it from afar, not so much. As you can see, I did not redo the block.
There is also a picture that folks tend to not tell what it is. Until I tell them. It is the E. The picture is an egg.
The town that we were living in when my son was born had a local fair. I entered this quilt in a contest and I won second place. I was excited! It was the first time I had entered my work in a contest. To place second was a thrill.
This quilt ended up being more of a show piece than a usable quilt. I did make my son a simple quilt for everyday use. And it was used up by the time he outgrew it.
This ABC quilt was stored away. Until about 5 years or so ago.
I dug it out of the box and cleaned it up. We had another generation starting.
